Description

A creamy and flavorful shrimp bisque perfect for any seafood lover.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups seafood or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, allowing the aroma to enhance the dish.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir well to combine. Cook for about 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually pour in the seafood or chicken broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  5. Stir in the corn kernels, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the pot and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are opaque and cooked through.
  7. Lower the heat and slowly stir in the heavy cream, making sure not to boil after adding it. Adjust seasoning as necessary.
  8. For an extra creamy consistency, you can use an immersion blender to blend a portion of the soup. This is optional and depends on personal texture preference.
  9. Ladle the bisque into bowls and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • This bisque can be blended for a smoother consistency if desired.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper to your preferred level of heat.
